Informing Policy Decisions through Evidence-Based Practice

Join us this afternoon for a conversation on evidence-based policymaking. As society grapples with challenges both internal and externally driven, how should policymakers think about evidence when making decisions?

Michael Fernandez, Founding Director of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Center for Scientific Evidence in Public Issues (EPI Center), discusses the implications of evidence-based decision-making in the context of voting (e.g. informing local governments about best practices regarding voting machines) and concerning public health (e.g. informing state actors about environmental and health-related impacts from PFAS). This talk will highlight how we, as social science scholars and students, might influence decision-making through evidence-based scholarship.
