UMBC Wind Ensemble presents: Fire

What could possibly bring together the intricate melodies of Indian raga, the driving beats of techno, the infectious groove of New Orleans brass band music, the drama of powerful Western Classical works, and the innovative jazz influences of Charles Mingus? The answer, brought to life by the UMBC Wind Ensemble, is fire — in all its primal power and rich symbolism. Join us for an electrifying evening as we explore fire’s profound connection to the human experience, revealing themes of resilience, celebration, the search for inner strength, and the transformative power of both natural forces and personal discovery.

This program will feature the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids Brass Band (Jared Perry, director) and internationally renowned tabla artist Neelamjit Dhillon. The Wind Ensemble is directed by Brian Kaufman.

Neelamjit Dhillon is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles. Skilled in both North Indian classical and American jazz music, Dhillon’s music is a reflection of his own multifaceted identity, spirituality, and vision for promoting a more equitable and just society through shared experience and collective action.
