The Interdisciplinary Studies Council of Majors (CoM) will host Kay Chernush, Founder and Director of "Artworks for Freedom", as our guest lecturer for this year’s annual Petrovich lecture.
Kay Chernush is the Executive Director of ArtWorks for Freedom, an organization whose mission is to use the power of art in the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking. She is a leading US photographer with more than 25 years’ experience in commercial and fine art image-making. Based in the Washington, DC area, her assignments and interests have taken her all over the world.
On March 3rd, she brings to UMBC her art exhibit, an associated, 30 minute movie about the project and a chance to welcome all into discussion.
Kay is an award-winning photographer based in the Washington, DC area. Her assignments and interests have taken her all over the world for U.S. and international magazines, Fortune 500 corporations and both nonprofit and governmental agencies. Her fine art work is included in the permanent collections of the World Bank, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the National Institutes of Health. Kay has extensive experience photographing human trafficking in the U.S. and abroad, resulting in eight major exhibitions. Her images grow out of one-on-one sessions with survivors of human trafficking.
