The Department of Music presents the UMBC Wind Ensemble, directed by Brian Kaufman. The Ensemble takes on its most adventurous program yet with the help of celebrity Brad Ellis (pictured), music director and pianist of the hit show Glee, and Trevor Mowry, co-principal oboe of the Presidents Own Marine Band. The concert features serious to fun music connected to the theme of “children” including:

• Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue featuring Brad Ellis, piano
• Sondheim’s No One is Alone from Into the Woods, arranged by Brad Ellis
• World Premiere of Brad Ellis’s solo work for oboe and wind ensemble featuring Trevor Mowry
• Solo vocal/piano music performed by Brad Ellis
• Cartoon by Paul Hart
• Grainger’s Children’s March
• Camphouse’s Watchmen Tell Us of the Night

Brad Ellis has worked extensively as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, and music director in television, film, musical theater, and cabaret artist. Brad is best known as Brad the Pianist on Fox TV’s hit musical dramedy, Glee, where his off-screen duties have included composing, arranging, casting, vocal coaching, live performance and musical direction including the cast’s 2010 appearance at the White House. Other television appearances include Gilmore Girls, Girls Next Door, Oprah, The View, The Middle, Close to Home, Instant Beauty Pageant, and The 81St Annual Academy Award Oscars 2009 with Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, with whom he collaborated on the opening number, and received an Emmy certificate. He is currently in production with in The Glee Project for the Oxygen Network, a reality show about finding new cast members for Glee.

As Co-Principal Oboe of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, Trevor Mowry is the youngest salaried principal oboist in the country. He has given performances across the United States, including as a guest artist with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Houston Grand Opera. He is an active teacher currently working as a coach for the American Youth Philharmonic and maintaining a private oboe studio. He holds a degree from Eastman School of Music with additional studies from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
