In its sixth season, this year’s Livewire contemporary music festival at UMBC explores the connection between words and music. How have poetry and literature influenced the development and trajectory of contemporary music movement? What are some writings that have inspired individual composers? How does poetry exist in music that doesn’t have words?
Hailed for “warm creamy voice,” mezzo-soprano Patricia Green will be the resident artist, singing with Ruckus, UMBC’s faculty new music ensemble, on October 22nd, and as a featured soloist on October 24th. UMBC’s composition faculty — Linda Dusman, Anna Rubin, David Revill and Janice Macaulay — will be featured during the festival with world premieres along with regional composers Thomas DeLio, Ronald Pearl, Jessica Krash, and Will Redman.
