Description
The UMBC Collegium and Gamelan Ensemble will be partnering to present a joint concert for the spring semester. Collegium’s theme this semester is Convention and Innovation. They will be pairing music that pushed boundaries in its time with music that followed stylistic conventions. The repertory will include pieces by Palestrina, Biagio Marini, Claudio Monteverdi, Giacomo Carissimi, Diego Ortiz, Isabella Leonarda, and Salamone Rossi. The Gamelan Ensemble will be giving its inaugural performance on the music department’s newly acquired Javanese gamelan! Their program will consist of traditional Javanese music written for gamelan ensemble. This event is free and open to the public.
