This Is Momentary

The Department of Dance once again celebrates UMBC’s 50th anniversary with a special performance. September featured the work of alumna Tracy Broyles; this performance by Pacing Bodies Dance Company features the work of a recent graduate and exceptionally talented choreographer, Ryan Bailey.

This Is Momentary is an exploration of withdrawn memories that affect our present minds. The essence of time and its sudden shifts stipulate movement patterns that are divided into retractable moments and forgotten imagery. This Is Momentary will be performed by Pacing Bodies dancers Ryan Bailey, Maura Bailey, Stephanie Castner, Melissa Hudson, Rachel Lum, Marina Nicholas, Maia Schechter, Ragin Smith, Maddie Staley, Nerissa Vasconcells with lighting by Jeremy Mayo.

Ryan Bailey graduated from UMBC in Spring 2016. A Linehan Artist Scholar in Dance, Bailey’s choreography October was selected for the American College Dance Association Mid Atlantic regional festival in 2016. Upon graduation from UMBC, Bailey formed Pacing Bodies, a dance company featuring his choreography. His choreography was  presented in the adjudicated Baltimore Dance Invitational concert at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts in February, 2017. Bailey was also recently selected for the prestigious Young Choreographers Festival in New York City and the Hubbard Street Dance Company summer intensive this summer in Chicago. 

Newly formed in late 2016 under the direction and choreography of Ryan Bailey, Pacing Bodies is a contemporary dance company based in Baltimore, Maryland. Pacing Bodies dancers have worked closely and collaboratively with Bailey for the past few years, adapting to his intricately designed choreography. Though particularly filled with small initiations of movement motivation, Pacing Bodies intertwines athleticism and technique unique to Bailey’s style: a gateway to a deeper connection with emotion through powerful yet subtle movement and gesture. Pacing Bodies will perform perform in the Young Choreographer’s showcase festival in June in New York City.
