Grammy Award winning soprano Leona Mitchell is one of America’s most beloved and celebrated sopranos, having spent 18 seasons as a leading spinto soprano at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Her program will feature works by Handel, Rodrigo, Duparc, Dvorak, Satie, Bizet and more, and will be followed by a reception. She will be joined by pianist Nancy Beith.
A reception will follow the performance.
Proceeds from the David W. Smith Gala will support an annual scholarship for a young vocalist pursuing education at UMBC. David W. Smith, a magnificent tenor and passionate teacher at the university, touched many lives before his untimely passing in 2009; the Gala honors his life as an artist and his commitment to teaching. General Admission: $75 (fair market value $22)
UMBC Alumni: $50 (FMV $22)
UMBC Music Alumni: $25 (FMV $25)
All tickets include admission to the post-concert reception.
Funds raised will be administered by the UMBC Foundation for the benefit of UMBC Music. Proceeds from the event will benefit the David W. Smith Scholarship for Vocal Arts. Your contribution above the Fair Market Value (FMV) may be tax deductible.
