Euphonium soloist Hiram Diaz joins UMBC faculty and students for a night of incredible brass music. The evening will feature a virtuosic solo set by Diaz that culminates in a performance alongside a large UMBC student/faculty brass ensemble. Brass chamber and large ensemble works will also be performed throughout the program, including Aaron Copland’s iconic Fanfare for the Common Man.

Hiram Diaz is a euphoniumist, trombonist, vocalist and music educator. A second generation Cuban American, he grew up in Miami, surrounded by rich expressions of Latin-American art. He studied at Miami’s New World School of the Arts, the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, and the University of North Texas. His teachers include Dr. Brian Bowman, Tim Northcut, Jay Bertolet and Lee Rogers. Throughout his education, he has received many honors, including winning the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Artist Euphonium Competition in 2008.

As a euphonium soloist, Hiram has performed throughout the United States and abroad. He has also performed regularly on euphonium, trombone, and bass trumpet with the Baltimore Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and National Symphony Orchestras. Since 2012, Hiram has served proudly in “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band.

He and his amazing wife, Molly, live in the D.C. area with their children, Olivia, David, and Ana.

Hiram performs exclusively on S.E. Shires custom euphoniums.

$15 general admission, $10 seniors, $5 students, free for UMBC music majors and music faculty/staff, available online or at the box office one hour prior to the performance.
