We live in an era of medicalization- the process of conceptualizing and treating a wide range of human experiences as medical problems in need of medical treatment. Yet little is known about how this biomedical framework affects mental health care practitioners' experiences. This book offers insight into the consequences of the biomedical era for mental health practitioners with a focus on the role of talk therapy, medication, and the DSM in practice, as well as doctors' ideas about etiology and treatment.
