Description

UMBC’s Department of Theatre presents a Theatre Mini-Fest, featuring faculty master classes by Eric AbeleChelsea PaceAdam MendelsonSusan McCully, and Lynn Watson, March 4 through 6.

Projection design as its own contributor to theatre design is one of the newer technologies in our story-telling stable. In this session, join Adam Mendelson as he explores some of the unique opportunities and challenges that this kind of story-telling presents. We will talk about defining goals, creating and organizing images, playback and control and collaborating with all of the other areas including acting, directing, costuming, lighting, sound and scenery. Bring your questions or your projects and we will explore them together.

Adam Mendelson teaches Lighting and Sound Design at UMBC, where he helped prepare the new theatre spaces for the opening of the state-of-the-art Performing Arts and Humanities Building in 2012. He previously taught design at the University of Wyoming, the University of Texas-Arlington, Stephens College (Columbia, MO), and Lawrence Academy (Groton, Massachusetts). His design work has been seen across the country and as far afield as Edinburgh, Scotland. He designs lights and sound for our Theatre department productions and he teaches lighting design students in sophisticated professional level technology and supervises Theatre design majors. He received a B.A. in drama from Tufts University and an M.F.A. in design and technical theatre, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
