FACULTY FEATURE: Professor Randolph Ford
For our next Faculty Feature, we want to highlight Professor Randolph Ford!
Over the summer, Professor Ford traveled to several cities in China, where he conducted important library research and visited ancient monuments like the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an (see picture below). He also delivered two talks related to his current book project, one in Shanghai, titled "Strategies of Accommodation: Governance in the Sixteen Kingdoms and the Law Codes of the Post-Roman West" and another in Suzhou, "Social Distinctions in the Shadows of Empire: Governance under the Five Hu 五胡 and the 'Barbarian' West."
Professor Ford hopes to expand the range of course offerings that incorporate parts of Asia in the pre-modern period. We encourage those interested in learning more about his research to check out the new courses he has developed — ANCS/ASIA 358: Frontiers of Ancient China and Rome, and ANCS/ASIA 360: Central Asian Empires of the Silk Road!
