Welcome New Faculty Fall 2018

New Assistant Professor and Full Year Visiting Artist

The UMBC Department of Dance is thrilled to announce new faculty members beginning Fall 2018.

Ann Sofie Clemmenson, our new Assistant Professor, a native of Denmark, will teach Improvisation and mentor the First Works choreographers this Fall.   Upcoming creative projects include Dance All Year Long (Odense, Denmark – December 2018) where Ms. Clemmensen is commissioned to make a site-specific work in collaboration with a local architect specializing in sustainable architecture. Ms. Clemmensen has successfully created a summer program, Da[n]ce Denmark*, that invites American college students majoring in dance to visit Denmark for six weeks and immerse themselves in cultural exchange and dance as creative movement practice with many forms of expression. for more information, go here.

Shaness Kemp, a native Bahamian, is our new full-year Artist in Residence. In Fall 2018, Ms. Kemp will teach Advanced Technique, Repertory, Dance Workshop, and will introduce the Friday Intermediate Contemporary Dance classes to  Umfundalai, a contemporary African dance technique that comprises its movement vocabulary from dance traditions throughout the Diaspora.
